The beautiful words microphones picked up Robbie Lawler saying to Nick Diaz in the octagon after the

Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz battled at UFC 266 an incredible 17 years after their first encounter in a UFC octagon.

The outcome was different as Lawler avenged the loss he suffered way back in 2004, but the respect shared between two gun-slinging veterans was the main victory.

In a UFC video called 'The Thrill and The Agony', microphones in the cage caught the conversation Lawler and Diaz had at the end of their contest.

“Are you good?” Lawler asked Diaz. “Are you good in life? That’s (censored) different. Let’s (censored) get there, you know what I’m saying?”

Diaz’s replies aren’t audible in the video clip, but he puts his arm around Lawler warmly, with 'Ruthless' responded: “Let me (censored) know if I can help.”

It’s a beautiful sentiment from Lawler, especially given all the speculation around Diaz’s position heading into the fight.

He suggested he didn’t love fighting anymore and he didn’t know why he was facing Lawler. After over six years out of the game, many believe Diaz was fighting for the payday and he was believed to have walked away from the event with around $500,000.

The fight told a story in and of itself. Diaz came out looking energised and ready to entertain as a Diaz only can, but as the rounds wore on, he became disinterested and seemed to be wishing time away.

He got what he needed on the night and many fighters were happy to see him return, but to echo Lawler’s words, many more would prefer to see him comfortably retire.

ESPN’s Brett Okomoto has suggested the general feeling is that Diaz will have another fight in UFC and could negotiate that with the company soon.

Those around Diaz are in favour of him fighting again and UFC president Dana White raved about his performance at UFC 266.

Still, coming off a loss to Lawler, who should UFC really be matching Diaz with?
